【4.20】Invitation to Engagement Session on the Refinements to Hong Kong’s Foreign-sourced Income Exemption (FSIE) Regime for Foreign-sourced Disposal Gains

Dear HKCAMA members,

You are invited to join an engagement session on the proposed refinements to Hong Kong’s FSIE regime to be held on 20 April 2023 (Thu).     

Hong Kong has all along been actively participating in and supportive of international tax co-operation.  In view of the latest requirement set out in the EU’s updated FSIE Guidance promulgated in December 2022 to cover disposal gains as part of the reform for FSIE regimes, Hong Kong needs to further amend the tax treatments of foreign-sourced disposal gains by the end of 2023 for implementation with effect from January 2024.  In this connection, the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau has commenced a consultation exercise to seek views on the proposed refinements on or before 6 June 2023.  A copy of the consultation paper issued on 6 April 2023 is attached.

The Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau would like to invite you and your member companies to join the engagement session to be conducted by the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau (FSTB) and the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) on 20 April 2023.  We will provide a briefing on the proposed amendments to the FSIE regime and exchange views with the participants.  Details of the engagement session are as follows -

Virtual meeting by zoom (the zoom link to be sent in due course)  

The engagement session will be conducted in English. It is on a first-come-first-serve basis, and only up to 5 representatives can join the meeting.
